  • POSITION SUMMARY

    Utilizing a positive behavior and restorative model, the Social Emotional Skills Instructor is responsible for working with students on developing and practicing the social emotional skills required to be successful during high school and beyond. This role will provide genuine, evidence-based supports to tier II and tier III students in order to help navigate a variety of barriers. Employee will work directly with the Restorative Coordinator and Student Services team to provide targeted supports and services to students.  This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision and Values, on behalf of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Lead group sessions to enhance social development of students and provide peer support in areas such as interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and diffusement of stress.
    • Teach social-emotional skills to students
    • Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions by prioritizing behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated, and provides ample practice.
    • Utilize student, school and community data to plan, identify and implement evidence-based, culturally competent prevention strategies to meet student needs.
    • Identify research based programs and strategies to support students.
    • Provide behavior support at the school wide prevention level, at the targeted classroom/small group level and at the individual behavioral/mental health level to address issues that prevent learning readiness.
    • Use ongoing progress monitoring to maintain a record of student progress and the success or failure of planned interventions and systems.
    • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions using restorative practices.
    • Serve as a resource within the student services team in order to identify and align research-based interventions and supports for Tier II and III students in need.
    • Accurately design systems to monitor the impact of interventions, and implement with fidelity.

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field
    • Minimum of two years experience in field of high education
    • Experience working with high school students
    • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with parents, staff, and students
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Team player, self managing, takes initiative
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Logical problem-solving, including identifying root-causes and aligned interventions
    • Working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Google applications (Gmail, Google docs) and Microsoft applications (Word and Excel)
