  • Construction Project Manager

    The Construction Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing a portfolio of projects to include new facilities, renovations, and site improvements across the organization. In addition, the manager will lead and manage all facility-related sustainability efforts for the organization. This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision and Values, on behalf of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana.



    • Plans, budgets and schedules facilities modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts and contracts for construction and acquisitions, to include but not limited to Generation of Scope of Work, project specifications, in-house shop drawings and sketches as necessary (Microsoft Visio), and the like.
    • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Leads coordination of all support departments for successful delivery of all projects.
    • Leads communication to all stakeholders and responsible for customer satisfaction.
    • Coordinates with Field Staff Manager on project delivery and completion for all projects contracted through outside vendors or completed by Goodwill staff.
    • Closely monitors General Contractor performance on multiple construction projects. That includes but is not limited to inspecting the work regularly, monitoring test reports, reviewing submittals and carefully reviewing plans and revisions for adherence to spec and Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana requirements.
    • Serves as Facilities Management Department liaison to internal customers, specifically those who will be occupying or utilizing the end result of facility-related projects.
    • Serves as a lead point of contact for third-party contractor and supplier relations on projects.
    • Develops and maintains building and facility specifications and technical documentation particular to Goodwill.
    • Understands the interrelationships of many projects that might need to be executed in parallel.
    • Develops project plans.
    • Identifies and prequalifies new general contractors and vendors. Evaluates existing general contractors and vendors to ensure service levels exceed our expectations.
    • Meets agreed upon targets in terms of cost, schedule, functionality and quality.
    • Creates, monitors and communicates project schedules to ensure project deliverables are accomplished.
    • Effectively runs all project meetings.
    • Validates and processes general contractor invoices for completed and approved work. Tracks cost against approved project budget.
    • Conducts punch lists, efficiently manages closeout and trains operations staff at the completion of a job to ensure seamless turnover and startup.
    • Promotes an effective and proactive flow of information by exchanging ideas and opinions with the project sponsor to arrive at decisions, conclusions, solutions, or resolve disputes. Keeps project sponsor well informed of risks, deviations, and potential corrective actions to assist him/her in determining proper resource allocation, departmental budgeting and developing needed corrective actions.
    • Ensures team members are properly informed throughout the project by providing constructive feedback and giving positive, fair and appropriate recognition for performance.
    • Provides guidance to ensure safety in all facilities through safety programs, activities and committees.
    • Leads and manages all facility related sustainability-related efforts and ROI on major projects (such as Energy Star and GII Energy Challenge).
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • BS degree in civil or mechanical engineering or construction management
    • At least 10 years of construction or facilities project management experience preferred
    • Experience in supervision of employees a plus
    • Knowledge of facilities and building code regulations and requirements required, including IBC and ADA
    • Extensive knowledge of project management tools and techniques
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, and specification documents
    • Proven abilities in relationship management with both internal and external stakeholders; examples of internal customers include but aren't limited to executive project champions, end customers who will be occupying or utilizing end projects for business operation or mission delivery; external stakeholders include but aren't limited to general contractors, vendors and suppliers
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations; review and interpret engineering and technical documents, including construction drawings
    • Solid working knowledge of database software (CMMS); Microsoft Office and Internet navigation
    • Broad knowledge of the computer technology field is required
    • Attention to detail, deadline oriented, flexible, adaptable and able to juggle priorities
