  • POSITION SUMMARY

    The GEI Marketing and Communications Manager advises, plans and executes a wide variety of education and mission awareness communications and activities to strengthen The Excel Center, Indianapolis Metropolitan High School and Children’s Learning Center. These include, but are not limited to, research, communications plans, editorial content, media relations, marketing collateral and other materials, advertisements, social media, web content, publications, presentations, videos, events and more. By forging strong working relationships and becoming a trusted adviser, the Manager is expected to have extensive knowledge about our students, staff, Children’s Learning Center's clients and other key audiences. The Manager anticipates needs, leverages resources and connects marketing activities, recruitment needs and organizational opportunities to increase efficiencies and message effectiveness in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. With multiple projects in various stages, the Manager must guide planning and execution, research and evaluation, long-form storytelling and bite-sized content generation. The GEI Marketing and Communications Manager takes an audience-centric approach with his/her work, offering the message recipient’s perspective in order to craft highly effective plans, content, materials and more.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Develop editorial content for Goodwill Education Initiatives (GEI) communications, including newsletters, emails, website, social media, advertising, media pitches, annual report and other tools.
    • Schedule and attend regular meetings with GEI school leaders and social media coordinators to stay informed of enrollment progress, onsite updates, and provide support.
    • Develop and implement a more standardized approach for The Excel Center’s student recruitment.
    • Project manager for recruitment planning and execution, website redesign and newsletters. Support the schools, Children’s Learning Center and other stakeholders with communications planning and execution in order to meet defined objectives.
    • Pitch stories to media and respond effectively to media inquiries to ensure coverage. Contribute to media coverage database and help maintain media fact sheets and related materials.
    • Manage social media messages about new initiatives, student success, teacher and staff accomplishments, community engagement. Guide The Excel Center staff, Indianapolis Met staff and community partners through social media engagement strategies.

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or related field.
    •  3-7 years experience developing and executing communications or public relations plans; an understanding of how to define audiences and target messages to them.
    • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
    • Demonstrated experience developing stories of people and organizational impact. Critical skills include interviewing, writing, editing and publishing stories in print, web, video, etc.
    • Media relations experience, including identifying, pitching and responding, to achieve successful placements and coverage.
    • Ability to review historical recruitment plan objectives and analyze outreach and paid advertising to effectively recommend and lead new marketing strategies that will positively affect mission awareness and student enrollment.
    • Experience with a wide-range of communications and public relations strategies and tactics, including internal and external communications, advertising, events and more.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of social media and other innovative digital tools. An understanding of the audience and subject, and the ability to combine facts with narrative to tell stories that are impactful, emotional and succinct.
    • Ability to influence, collaborate and build consensus about communication needs and direction with GEI staff and leadership.
    • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
    • Strong work ethic and willing to go the extra mile to meet critical deadlines.
    • Must be able to work closely with all marketing team members and staff of The Excel Center, Indianapolis Met and Children’s Learning Center. A commitment to internal and external customer service is critical; ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality on plans that are not yet public is critical.
