    The Director, Advancement (Director) is responsible for the development and success of donor engagement within the Goodwill Foundation of Central and Southern Indiana (Foundation), a division of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana (GCSI).  The Director seeks mutually beneficial relationships with prospective and current donors striving to discover opportunities for GCSI and create shared value — for GCSI, the families it serves and community partners. 


    The Director reports to the Vice President of Community Engagement and Chief Advancement Officer (VPCE) and serves as a member of the extended leadership team, providing strategic guidance in financial development to advance GCSI’s mission through annual giving, endowment bequests and gifts, and major gifts.


    In order to provide strategic leadership and oversight, this position will have two direct reports: the Annual Fund Manager and the Grants Manager (responsible for grant development).


    The focus for this role is the development and implementation of Individual Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Annual Fund Development, and Corporate Giving.  In this role, this position will be responsible for the overall strategies around identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospective donors in each of these areas.  The Director will carry out activities outlined in Goodwill’s Strategic Plan and the Foundation’s Advancement Plan.  This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana.




    The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in related field is required
    • Minimum of five years professional experience in nonprofit development, with a focus on major gift development. Successful history of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors at the major gift level
    • Prior experience in the following areas is helpful: capital campaigns, major and/or planned giving, and prospect research
    • Solid level of negotiation and closing skills with a heightened ability to read the situation and act accordingly
    • Possesses strong relationship-building skills and is highly detailed and organized
    • Must be able to build collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers
    • Superior writing and strong oral communication skills with great ability to communicate at multiple levels
    • Efficient at multitasking; highly developed sense of urgency
    • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and email, Gmail preferred
    • Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT is preferred
    • Demonstrates initiative; understands how to seek out and research information effectively to complete work
    • Self-directed and highly conscientious, uses good common sense and can work alone or as a part of a team
    • Must have professional appearance and reliable transportation
    • Occasional evening working hours
    • Passion for the mission of GCSI and the ability to serve effectively as an ambassador for the organization required
    • Ability to create an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration required
    • Advanced organizational and project management abilities required
    • Certified Fundraising Executive certified preferred
