Under the direction of the school leader, the special education coordinator plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in accordance with a student’s Individual Education Program (IEP).  The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision and Values, on behalf of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana

Responsibilities 

• Provide coordination for special education services including development of IEP’s, and coordination of referrals to outside resources
• Accommodate the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based on upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies
• Maintain accurate and compliant student records and prepare documentation as required by law
• Hold the case conference committee meetings to assist in developing measurable goals, benchmarks, and objectives to meet student’s needs
• Regularly monitor the implementation of the student’s IEP and provides progress reports to the student and/or family
• Develop compliant and comprehensive transition plans
• Clearly communicate students IEP accommodations to general education staff
• Ensure any needed accommodations and modifications on district, statewide, and national assessments are implemented according to the student’s IEP

• Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education; Licensed in special education-mild and/or intense certification required
• Experience using IIEP; preferred
• Demonstrates an understanding of federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services
• Experience completing observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of students
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check
