POSITION SUMMARY

This is a great part time opportunity through Goodwill Commercial Services! The floor technician will work 20 hours a week, 4 hours Wednesdays through Fridays, and 8 hours on Saturdays. Saturday availability is required. This position is at Goodwill's corporate office on 1635 W. Michigan St., with occasional work at our Commercial Services warehouse, located on 413 N. Tremont St. 

 

The floor tech keeps floors of office building or other commercial or institutional building in clean and orderly condition by performing janitorial duties (carpet cleaning and tiles).  This role demonstrates behaviors consistent with our Mission, Vision and Values, on behalf of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana.

  • Possess the capability to properly clean the building. Any candidate must first pass a background check before they can be employed for this position
  • Language skills: Basic language skills
  • Mathematical skills: Basic math skills
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Two or more years’ experience in carpet cleaning, VCT care required
  • An industry recognized certification for floor care is preferred
  • Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) Certifications for Basic and Advanced Janitorial Care are offered in-house and required within 1 year of hire

The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.  The employee must be able to operate and control walk-behind and riding equipment such as scrubbing and buffing machines.

 

Work Environment

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to potentially slippery floors and the moving mechanical parts of floor equipment. The employee will be exposed to dust, dirt, debris, and dust particles in the air.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
  • Cleans office areas, rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and locker rooms and other work areas.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
  • Dusts furniture and equipment.
  • Polishes metalwork.
  • Washes walls, ceilings, and woodwork.
  • Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Empties wastebaskets, and empties and cleans ashtrays.
  • Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Delivers messages.
  • Transports small equipment or tools between departments.
  • Sets up tables and chairs in auditorium or hall.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
